Ladies, this one's for you! “The Secret Victorian Lady” demystifies the function of undergarments worn by Victorian ladies to achieve the fashionable silhouette.
Lydia Chiappini, dressed in an earlier Victorian ensemble, will explain the various garments and undergarments that make up the silhouette, along with their cultural and sociological implications, by “deconstructing” the silhouette. She will then redress it to create a later Victorian costume, showing the historical changes that take place in dress. All the designs are original and period correct. They are based on extant examples in the MET, the Sigal Museum, and various publications.
